Last weekend, September 7 and 8, youth soccer was the protagonist at the Municipal Arraona-Joan Murtró, where the first edition of the Futpro Cup by Endeka Sports was held, a tournament that brought together some of the most important clubs in Spain. Teams such as Atlético de Madrid, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Girona FC and the host CE Mercantil competed in a “round-robin” league format, providing a show full of excitement and youthful talent.

Atlético de Madrid was proclaimed champion after showing its solidity on the field, achieving three crucial victories against CE Mercantil (1-2), Girona (0-2) and FC Barcelona (2-0). The colchonero team suffered a defeat against Real Madrid (0-2) in the last match, which did not upset their plans to finish as champions.

Real Madrid finished in second place, especially outstanding in their match against Atlético de Madrid, where they achieved a convincing victory (0-2) that reaffirmed their potential and thus reached the runner-up position. However, an unexpected stumble against Girona (2-0) and a draw against FC Barcelona (1-1) prevented Los Blancos from reaching the top spot.

Girona FC was the surprise of the tournament, taking third place after beating Madrid (2-0) and Barcelona (0-1). The team from Girona showed that their youth has a lot to offer, with a strong defense that allowed them to achieve these valuable victories.

FC Barcelona, on the other hand, had an irregular tournament, occupying an unusual fourth position. Although their victory over CE Mercantil (3-0) was outstanding, they were unable to avoid defeats against Atlético and Girona, as well as conceding a draw against Real Madrid.

CE Mercantil, the host club, closed the standings in fifth place, but offered moments of great competitiveness, such as their victory over Girona (2-0), which unleashed euphoria in the local stands.

Final ranking:

  1. Atlético de Madrid
  2. Real Madrid
  3. Girona FC
  4. FC Barcelona
  5. CE Mercantile

Individual winners:

  1. MVP: Hugo Fernández (Real Madrid).
  2. Pichichi: Borja Zurdo and Mario Muñoz (Atlético de Madrid) and Robert del Olmo (Girona FC).

This inaugural tournament has laid the foundations to consolidate the Futpro Cup by Endeka Sports as a benchmark competition in Spanish grassroots soccer. The high competitiveness, the family atmosphere and the quality shown by the young players were the keynote of an event that will undoubtedly be repeated in the coming years.
