Igualada CF CONFIRMED!

In 1911, Igualada Football Club was founded, which adopted the name of Centro de Deportes de Igualada (1912-1915). In 1920, it was renamed Ateneu Igualadí SF. In 1926, a new club was founded and the old name of Igualada FC was recovered.

After the Civil War, football resumed its activities using the facilities of the Ateneo. In 1939, CF Igualada de Educación y Descanso was founded, which in 1944 became the current CF Igualada. Joan Colom i Jorba registered the new club in the Catalan Federation and was joined by the players of the so-called Penya Goya, from which it adopted the blue and white colours. Ramon Godó i Franch was its first president.

The club played in various regional divisions until the 1945-46 season, when it was crowned champion of Catalonia for the first time and won the promotion to the Third National Division, a division in which it made its debut in the 1946-47 season. In this season, Igualada was the first team in Catalonia to wear numbered shirts, and the second team in Spain to wear numbered shorts, after Real Madrid.

We’ll see what the “blues” are capable of at CGC24.
